I had the opportunity to teach data science at bootcamps very early on in my data science career. Back in 2018, while being a student, I was contacted by Vivadata (later acquired by Artefact).
I was doing lots of small freelance missions on the side of my studies as a data scientist and that's how they found me.
I started teaching data science concepts at the bootcamp in Paris on the side of my classes, usually one day a week.
After a few bootcamps, the opportunity to contribute to the opening of a bootcamp in Dakar, Senegal (Wester Africa) came up. An entrepreneur is setting up one of the very first data science tracks of the country, and I'd be one of the first data science "teachers" around. So, next thing...
I stayed close to a month in Senegal all-together, hosted hackathons with the local indie hackers and software engineers communities, and spent countless hours preparing the content of the curriculum to deliver value to students.
The bootcamp is still running, and is now integrated into a university track, which later became one of the first Masters in Data Science in Western Africa!
2019 was the year I finished my second Masters. Started the year full of doubts, moving from economics to engineering. Finished the year traveling to teach what I learned. My girlfriend joined me and we traveled around the world for a couple of months before starting our PhDs.
Ah and funny enough, this even led to an interview I gave for a local TV:
